While cleaning out the pool today, I caught a thought about how doing that was like trying to meditate.
There are several levels to the depth of the water: the surface, the bottom, and everything in between.
It is difficult to clear away the debris at the bottom of the pool, when your eyes perceive debris on the surface. The surface has to be cleared first. Then, when that is clearer, the middle stuff can be tackled. After that, you can finally clean the bottom.
But, just to complicate this slightly, your attention can be distracted by the flies buzzing about your head.
Meditation is like that. Just keep working at it, until the debris is cleared away, and then ‘dive right in”.
