It Wasn’t His Time to Die

A Matter of Faith

When 77 cm of rain fell on downtown Toronto on Tuesday this past week, flash flooding caught a couple of co-workers in an elevator. They had gone to the basement of the building where they work to check on their cars, and got stuck in the elevator. The story is recounted by Global News here.

Two of the four TV networks operating out of Toronto had extensive interviews. I didn’t see the CityTV one, but I caught the CP24/CTV news at 5 one. Now I have seen the Global version, above. The CBC also reported the story on The National at 10 pm, but they skipped over what I thought was the most important part of the story of their rescue.

One of the men, Gabriel, said that he had prayed when the water started to rise quickly in the elevator; as he is quoted in the news report, he said,

“I got the word that now was not my time…”
