OK. Here’s How One Legend Leads to Another

Durandal – Roland’s Sword

It was something in the story of Henry the Younger King that caught my eye. Evidently, he stole Roland‘s sword, but didn’t get away with it. This sword may (or may not) have spawned the Sword in the Stone legend attached to Arthur. In fact, Durandal passed through the hands of Charlemagne, on its way to Roland. Rumour suggests that Wayland the Smith may have forged it. I’ve been to Wayland’s Smithy!
