Ninety-Five Years Ago, FIFA had Its First Champion

Uruguay 4, Argentina 2 (July 30, 1930)

It may seem ‘old hat’ now, but in 1930, the FIFA World Cup championship was brand new. Uruguay were the 1928 Olympic champions of the sport (soccer in North America, football in the rest of the world). This FIFA championship match was a rematch between rivals Uruguay and Argentina.

This is the chart for the start of the game @ 2 pm local time. There are two inconjuncts: the Sun/Saturn one would last the whole day; the Pluto/Ascendant one for just a few minutes. There are also two T-squares: one pointing at the Moon; the other at the Jupiter/Pluto (wide) conjunction. In effect, the status quo was maintained.

These days, the champions could come from anywhere. I wonder who next year’s winner will be.
