There used to be railway tracks underneath the Commercial/Broadway bridges. This is where I envisioned Joe’s hideout, which he shared with Thomas.

When I originally walked the railway tracks, there was no graffiti, but in my mind this is how it would look under the bridges.

But it would serve as shelter from the inclement weather for our hero. Especially with a bonfire to cook food over.

Finally, as all visitors to Vancouver know, there are some parts of the city that are just too dangerous to go. The down-and-outs congregate on East Hastings Street. Only local people would feel comfortable going there.
