The Genius Behind (Neon) Rose, Toronto and ‘that’ Heart Song

Brian Allen

It’s something special to see someone you know succeed in showbusiness. Brian Allen wouldn’t remember me: I was just another student on the school bus to Barrie from Camp Borden and Angus in the middle years of the 60’s. But I sure knew who he was.

Rose

Rose (formerly Neon Rose)

We all were trying to make ourselves famous as members of a rock bank. Brian (above left) was a little more productive than the rest of us. My link to Rose was Ron Glatley (centre right). We corresponded off and on after high school.

Toronto

After Rose disbanded, Brian (second from right) formed Toronto, to much greater acclaim. Then Brian decided to try his hand at producing other people’s work.

But he has an enduring claim to fame:

And now it’s the soundtrack of a Heinz commercial!

Now, that’s what I call pure genius…
