Even in the Midst of Your Daily Routines, Be…

Mindful

Sometimes, when I’m going through my daily ‘processes’, especially first thing in the morning, I have to remind myself to pay attention to what I’m doing. Literally, it is very easy to be absentminded. But if I forget whether I’ve taken my insulin or other diabetes medications, I might take them again and cause myself a medical problem, hypoglycemia. That can be deadly.

It’s a bit like the instruction given by Mr. Miyagi to Daniel laRusso in “The Karate Kid“:

Wax on, wax off.

The idea is to make the mundane and routine work part of your mindfulness, and thereby to bring your consciousness to bear in everything you do, until it becomes part of you.

Amen.
