This Show’s Title Could Refer to Any Number of Men

The Old Man (2022 – Season 1)

We started watching this show on Disney+ last Friday, and we’ll probably see episode 7 tonight. Whether we’ll bother with season 2 remains to be seen.

I assumed from the very start that the role Jeff Bridges plays was The Old Man. It turns out that the assassin hired to eliminate him was actually that person. That came as a surprise.

It’s a gritty, violent show, but one that uncovers the subtlety of all forms of relationship. Both main protagonists (Harper and Chase) act as father figures for their ‘daughter’ Emily/Angela, who is acting as a mole in the FBI. But her actual father wants to bring her back to him, and that I guessed by the 3rd episode. (I know, I know: aren’t I the clever one?)

Since the events in the present are anchored in the past (more than 30 years ago), all the men are old. Will they succeed? Is Emily/Angela in danger? Does any of it matter?

You decide..
