Maigret (2025)
I must admit that it was difficult to watch this contemporary version of an old classic show. Even the description of the character from the books completely ties in with what I remember of previous versions.
Maigret wears a thick black overcoat, a bowler hat (which he later swaps out for a fedora) and frequently smokes a tobacco pipe.[11] He is described as tall and heavy, with broad shoulders, large hands, a thick face, thick hair, thick eyebrows and bright eyes of a “greenish gray” colour. He has strongly growing facial hair and therefore shaves every morning.
That description has now been rendered obsolete by this slimmed down and hairy version of the man.
Even Rowan Atkinson tried his hand at portraying him in 1994, but I guess that’s where the slimmed-down version came from. My personal memory of the stories starred Rupert Davies.
Even popular images of op art show the major props that Maigret had.

But, I guess the 1930’s are truly dead and gone. The only thing that carries on is the fact that Maigret has a pipe, but he never smokes it.
But, at least, it nice to see Paris scenery. It’s just a shame that I cannot buy into its newest Inspector.
