Words

(The tune running through my head when I wrote this poem was “If” by Bread – see below)

Words

If words were all I had to use,

No one could comprehend,

How glad I am that I can choose

Some time, with you, to spend.

The time goes by, without a word,

As if it shouldn’t stay;

It’s just as if we’d never heard

What other people say.

And if I seem a little quiet,

I am smothering the riot

In my soul.

But words are not the only way

To show you that I care;

So if I love you one more day,

I hope you’ll find that fair:

Cause time has such a cruel streak,

When tearing souls apart;

But you will never feel as weak

With me, within your heart.
