If love could soothe all peoples’ souls,
As you, with gentle hands, have mine,
Then life would be a smoother wine
To ease all minds from anxious goals.
The time around us walked its pace,
As if it knew we wouldn’t rush;
The room took on a quiet hush,
As happy pleasures warmed your face.
Our words drew close, reached out for fun,
As each new thought jumped forth and back
Between direct, right-on-the-track,
And humour, freely left undone.
Then silent words took over there,
As we, with pensive feelings, lay
And knew we had no need to say
What signs it took to show we care.
I’ll wait, you know I’ll patient be,
Until those perfect moments come,
When I shall cause your heart to drum,
And have you love me equally.
