Colourful Enigma

The irony of using a black and white ‘biography’ portrait for such a one as Freddie Mercury cannot be overstated. In truth, none of us really know who he was, but we were all affected by his music, especially as a member of Queen.

I researched Mercury’s story for astrological clues. I think I’ve nailed his birth time quite accurately, although no one else tried to rectify his chart, choosing instead to use dawn (6:30 am) or noon on his birth date. The time of 2:00 pm is better, since it shows three ‘events’ of his life: his arrival in the UK in 1964 (Uranus); Queen’s Live Aid performance (Saturn); and his death to an AIDS-related pneumonia (Pluto).

It was a short but dramatic life, by any standards.

By having his Moon in Capricorn in the 12th House of his chart, the feminine side of his nature can be better understood. It haunted him, to be sure, but it also made his flamboyance more earthshaking — he was going against his more conservative, pragmatic side. The Ascendant being inconjunct to Pluto, while the Moon was inconjunct to Saturn, would have set him on a self-destructive path, almost involuntarily.

As I’ve said before, Astrology lets us peek behind the (lace) curtains into a person’s life.

In this case, some of the mystery of Freddie Mercury is more easily resolved.

All he really wanted to do was make a difference to the world, while just being exactly who he was.

In my opinion, he succeeded.
