The Name of the Game is Hidden Meaning

Manifest (2018 – 2023)

This is my next-to-last post about Manifest, the series that’s showing on Netflix. There are no spoiler alerts here, since I want to concentrate on the meanings behind the characters’ names.

Names as Religious Symbols in “Manifest”

Michaela – female version of Archangel Michael
Ben – short for Benjamin (a tribe of Israel)
Grace – a blessing to her family
Olive – All live
Cal – short for Calvin (John Calvin protestant leader)
Angelina – messenger of God
Eden – ‘delight’ (as in Garden of…)
Zeke – short for Ezekiel (a Hebrew prophet)
Jared – ‘descendant’ of Adam and Eve (father of Enoch)
Saanvi – follower of Lakshmi (Hindu goddess of luck and prosperity)
Eagan – Ego
Evie – Eve
828ers – hate to haters
Xers – people ‘exercising their rights’ against the 828 survivors

My own listing

This list is not exhaustive. I could have started another list of surnames only, beginning with “Stone” (between a rock and a hard place), for example. Obviously, the significance of these names cannot be underestimated.

We are down to the final few episodes and are eagerly awaiting the series finale. I hope it ‘glows’ okay.

So I had a few thoughts about the names:

    Angelina being an obvious one.
Cal because he had ‘cal’lings and ‘cal’led them all together
Olive was sent home to bring back Hope to the Ark (kinda works)
Drea Mikami is her full name (Dream)
    There’s so many more….

Also, did you ever notice how similar Eden and Egan sound when people mumble?!
