They call it ‘projection’. Psychologically, we see in others what we don’t want to see in ourselves.

In politics, this comes out as ‘but what about…?’ In the States this is clearly seen as the divide between the right and left sides of government. It is best to remember that whatever anyone says about another is a clear sign of what they know to be true about themselves. (“Election interference…”)
