The Age of Adaline (2015)

I missed this one, first time around. The premise seemed highly improbable and I was probably not feeling in the mood for a romantic fantasy. It stars Blake Lively, and now that I’ve seen this film, I cannot imagine anyone else in the role of Adaline. She should have been named Blake Lovely.

But at the base of this story is the (not so) hidden wish to live forever and never grow old. In reality, that scenario would turn into a nightmare, especially as everyone you have ever known would eventually die, and leave you lonely without them. This is brought to our consciousness by the photo album that Adaline kept of her many King Charles spaniels. She had just had to put her latest one to sleep and she took the best photo she possessed of it and placed it with the others. (Of course, this struck a nerve with me…)

So, the lesson here is, “Be careful what you wish for…”
