The Film That’s “Practically Perfect in Every Way”

Mary Poppins (August 27, 1964)

Here in Canada, our local TV station showed this film (ostensibly for Thanksgiving in the States).

I haven’t watched it all the way through for years, but I know the dialog and lyrics off by heart.

For sure, this is Music Hall (Vaudeville) at its finest.

Just for fun, let’s look at the event chart for its premiere.

So, is there anything here that can explain why “Mary Poppins” would be an instant hit and have sixty years of popularity and influence? Sun in Virgo opposite Saturn in Pisces, perhaps? There is only one inconjunct, linking Jupiter and the Midheaven. This would probably relate to the struggle for control over the whole project between Walt Disney and P.L. Travers, the author.

In truth this was Walt Disney’s crowning achievement, just two years before his death.

The film’s 6th House planets are now in Disney’s 12th House. And the two charts Ascendants are opposite each other. Did he know? Could he even have guessed? Only he knows.
