Some Films Have Lost Their Way Since They Were Made

Along Came A Spider (2001)

We watched this last night on CHCH TV. Because it stars Morgan Freeman, I thought it would be a good bet, but I was wrong. As Susan says, “It’s too emotional.”

The image that shows (above) is the old Court House in Vancouver (now the Vancouver Art Gallery). As soon as I saw it, I said to Susan, “This was filmed in Vancouver.” (She hears me say it all the time, so I suspect it’s lost its shock value.) Some outdoor filming was done in Washington, D.C., but these strange angle shots show up in odd places. So I asked Google where it was filmed. It said Vancouver and Coquitlam. (Oh, and Baltimore, would you believe?)

At best, this film shows that you cannot take any character at face value. The ‘material witness’ to the kidnapping was pipped to the post by the actual kidnapper. Over time, this is revealed.

I wouldn’t spend another 1 hour, 47 minutes on this one, and I wouldn’t have wasted the first period of time had I known then what I know now.

You have been warned.
