White Bird (2024)

We watched this two hour film on Netflix last night. It is the story of living through the Nazi occupation of France from a young student’s point-of-view. Sara is a Jewish teenager who somehow managed to elude arrest by hiding in a fellow student’s family barn. The white bird became her symbol of hope, sent to her by her mother.

This film was delayed for almost two years, but I’m not exactly sure why. COVID-19 may have been partially to blame, and the SAG-ACTA strike didn’t help, either. It was timely, in any event, since the film came out in the United States one month before Donald Trump was re-elected in 2024. The story line is a reminder of what can happen when a Fascist leader comes into power, without checks and balances. Which reminds me, Trump may be the reincarnation of Mussolini. .

Honestly, you were warned.
