Did You Ever Wonder Why Some Books Go On and On?

100th Anniversary of the Winnie-The-Pooh Book (October 14, 1926)

I believe this is the first book my mom got for me when I was still ‘knee-high to a grasshopper’. I certainly remember her reading it to me as a bedtime story. I also suspect that this is where my love for all things English comes from. The book turned 100 yesterday.

There were three inconjuncts for that day, none of which were dependent on the exact time of day. Logically, the London edition appeared on book shelves before the New York edition. No matter.

Winnie-the-Pooh, as a character, showed up the prior Christmas Eve as a featured children’s story in London’s Evening News. In fact, Pooh’s first appearance was in the book, When We Were Very Young in 1924 as “Edward Bear”. So his birth chart would be different to this one.

Pooh was living, then, under the name Mr. Sanders (one of A.A. Milne’s little jokes):

Yes, this book has legs. It will probably run and run for another hundred years.
