Alzheimer’s: Research is Trying to Find a Cure, but…

Type III Diabetes?

At the end of the latest season of “Grey’s Anatomy”, Meredith Grey was trying to make a breakthrough on her research for a cure to Alzheimer’s, and she had to go up against the establishment. It was an uphill battle. And I thought no more about it until yesterday, when I read a post on MSN about a link (or links) between Alzheimer’s and diabetes.

The symptoms of the proposed type 3 diabetes condition may include symptoms of dementia, such as those seen in early Alzheimer’s disease.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, these symptoms can include:

  • memory loss that affects daily living and social interactions
  • difficulty completing familiar tasks
  • misplacing things often
  • decreased ability to make judgments based on information
  • sudden changes in personality or demeanor

Now, this can be prevented, the article says, if you do these things:

If you have T2D, managing your condition with medication and lifestyle measures may help prevent Alzheimer’s disease and other complications.

Some of the proven methods for managing T2D and minimizing organ damage include:

  • exercising four times per week for 30 minutes per day
  • eating foods low in saturated fat, rich in protein, and high in fiber
  • monitoring your blood sugar according to a healthcare professional’s recommendations
  • taking prescribed medications regularly and on schedule
  • monitoring your cholesterol levels
  • maintaining a moderate weight

So far, so good, except for one thing: mental deterioration is ‘normal’ over time.

Another Theory…

Tinnitus. This one will seem strange, but the idea that your brain is constantly recording what you see and hear could somehow explain that the overlay of “white noise” may be wiping out your memory banks with ‘nothing’. In other words, using the analogy of a computer, some of the memories of the day may be erased before they’ve been put to bed for the night while you’re sleeping.

Or as my wife likes to say, “You need to get your ears tested…”

Yes, I’m going deaf, too, little by little. But I have had my hearing tested and there is damage in my right ear (probably from loud music in my youth). But I hate having ear plugs, so I’m resistant to getting hearing aids.

What’s a body to do?

Then there’s the idea that ‘someone’ is trying to erase our memories, via the Mandela Effect.
