Here’s a Simple Introduction to Astrology for Children

The Moon Beams: an Introduction

In the very beginning, there were only stars. Then one day, one of the stars decided to make some planets to revolve around it. The name of that star was Sun. And so Sun sent out a wave of hot energy in the form of light. When it cooled down, ten planets were born.

Around the third planet circled a satellite with the name Moon.

For years, Moon lived a quiet life, not paying much attention to the fact that the third planet was beginning to change from a sphere of water to the Earth that it was to become in the future. Gradually, Earth grew into a very beautiful world with plants, animals and people.

Earth looked like a big, blue marble to lonely Moon’s eyes.

Because Moon was so lonely, she decided to reach out and touch Earth, but she couldn’t because she had no light of her own. She called to Sun, “Please may I borrow some of your light, so that I may touch Earth, like you do?” Sun answered, “Only when it’s night time.”

Moon didn’t understand why, but she didn’t argue with him, as she knew he was atronger.

So, that very night, Moon began to stretch out her borrowed energy towards Earth and that is how the Moon Beams were born. At first, these newborn Beams were well-behaved, at least while Moon was watching over them, but, later on, they decided to have some fun.

One night, when Moon turn her face away, they escaped.

Having visited Earth many times, the Beams thought it might be exciting to fly up to the sky and visit the creatures who lived there. On Earth, they had heard stories about the Houses of the Zodiac, and they decided to see if anyone was home. So off they flew.

The first House they visited belonged to Aries, the Ram.

They weren’t sure what to make of Aries because, the minute he saw them, he put his head down to butt them out of his House. And when he realized that he couldn’t reach them, he lost his temper and started shouting at them to go away. So they did, at once.

They went to the next House where Taurus, the Bull, lived.

She wasn’t interested in playing with them either, and when they begged and pleaded, she just shook her head and went back to eating her green salad. Why didn’t anyone want to play with them? they wondered. Is everyone so unfriendly here, or do they just not like us?

But they had more luck next door with Gemini, the Twins.

These two seemed to be the same, but, in fact, they were extremely different to each other. One was very good, almost like an angel; the other was very bad, like a devil. He seemed to like playing sneaky tricks on his innocent brother. The Beams were confused.

So they visited the fourth House of Cancer, the Crab.

Now, Cancer is a shy creature and she doesn’t like to have anyone messing up her cozy home, so she didn’t answer their knock for quite a while. Finally, she opened her door just a little bit, waved her pincer claw at the Beams and then she quickly shut it again.

They went to the fifth House, the warm den of Leo, the Lion.

Now, here was a creature that loved the Beams. He romped and rolled around his House, growling and teasing those young visitors until they all lay exhausted by the play. When Leo fell asleep some time later, the Beams crept out quietly, in order to continue their journey.

In the next House, they found a lady called Virgo, the Virgin.

Now Virgo’s place was more like a restaurant than a home. She fed them every good thing she had, and they regained their strength in her company. However, she did think that they were foolish for wandering so far from their home. They politely thanked her and left.

The seventh House was the home of Libra, the Scales.

Something told the Beams that they shouldn’t enter the House of Libra, unless they wanted to see justice done. The sign on the door said, “Balance and Harmony.” The Beams weren’t sure if that was the nameplate of the partners of a solicitors’ office. They decided to go on.

The very next House was dark, home of Scorpio, the Scorpion.

Bravely, they entered the musty House, barely able to see beyond the threshold of the door. Inside, they heard a rustling sound, like the noise a rattlesnake makes just before it strikes with its deadly fangs. Because they were frightened, they scattered in all directions.

Next door, they were invited inside by Sagittarius, the Archer.

Sagittarius was a very friendly creature, who let the Beams ride around his back while he instructed them in the ways of the Zodiac creatures. They learned all about the seasons of the year and the types of people who are connected to them. They left a little bit wiser.

The tenth House belonged to Capricorn, the Sea-Goat.

Now, Capricorn seemed to be a strange creature to the young Beams. She was coldly efficient at her hard work, but she also seem delighted to acquire new possessions. She showed them that having a good reputation was very important in life. They heeded her words.

The next House contained Aquarius, the Water-Bearer.

This old man seemed to be a visionary, a prophet, who could tell the Beams about future events. His job was to share his knowledge with anyone who might want to listen to him. The Beams felt energized in his presence. They didn’t want to leave when it was time to go.

The final House was home to Pisces, the Fishes.

The Beams weren’t prepared for the absolute soaking they got when they entered Pisces’ environment. Everything felt so close, so immediate. It put them all into a dreamy sort of space. Enough, they thought, We must return to our mother who no doubt is missing us.

On their way back to Moon, the Beams saw the Zodiac signs.

We shall share our insights with our Mother, they thought, and she can send messages to the people on Earth. That way, everyone will know the same things. And so they arrived home, kissed Moon and said,

“Goodnight Universe…”
