A Classic Feel-Good Movie that’s also a True Story

Music of the Heart (1999)

There are very few Meryl Streep movies that I’ve not seen. This was one of them. I found it on Prime Video last night, and took some gentle ribbing from my wife, after saying that I didn’t want to watch a couple of other films from around the turn of the millennium because they were ‘too old’.

What is totally impressive is that Ms. Streep learned to play the violin in order to accurately portray the role of Roberta Guaspari, the woman who started a violin class in the Harlem school district. The film is inspiring, and the Carnegie Hall musical recital is the highlight of the story.

It’s a classic.
