Must Love Dogs (2026)
This is a series being repeated on CBC @ 9:00 pm Sunday nights. Essentially this is about a couple who rescue dogs from unhealthy and/or dangerous situations. As a dog owner I can see how useful these two are. But sometimes in spite of their best intentions, things can go awry.
The episode we watched last night featured a stray dog that gave birth to a dozen puppies or so. They kept the pregnant dog at their place until the pups were born. One of the puppies wasn’t doing as well as the rest, finally having problems with his breathing. They took him to the vets and after an X-ray, it was discovered that his digestive system was distended and pushing against his lungs, hence his breathing difficulties. The decision was to put him to sleep (euthanize him). The sequence was heartbreaking.
I remembered putting BeBe to sleep. The difference? She had a good, long life (15 years) and she was ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge. But it still hurt to let her go.
I’m going to finally admit it: I must love dogs.
