Dag Hammarskjöld (Jul 29, 1905 – Sep 18, 1961)

His name came up in our Faith and Science Zoom meeting today. Only those of us Baby Boomers will remember him clearly. Against all odds he was a Christian mystic from Sweden. He was also the second Secretary -General of the United Nations from 1953 – 1961.

This is the generally accepted birth time. And I won’t contradict it, because it shows enough for our purposes without changing it. If anything, he could have been born a quarter-of-an-hour later, and then the position of Jupiter would have been Life*Timed to his becoming the Secretary-General. Uranus is the anchor in his chart.

You will always need freedom, but you will also discover that what you do with your life will have meaning only if it means something to others. This is not an artificial rule but a truth that you will discover within yourself. When you do, you may become heavily involved in some social movement that advocates unusual ideas or ways of thinking. When you are an adult, you may join a movement for social reform and change. However, even in a group that embodies your own thinking, you will find it hard to adjust to the group’s demands on your own time and freedom. Consequently you will probably leave that group and join another, until that one also becomes oppressive.

“A poem written less than a month before the plane crashed, or was shot down, describes a landscape he had seen twice before in his dreams. It is one once can recognize when taking off or landing at Ndola. It must have been the last thing he saw in his mortal life.

‘The dark-blue night

Above the tree-line,

The open moor in moonlight,

The crest in shadow . . .

Twice I stood on its summits;

I stayed by its remotest lake,

And followed the river

Towards its source.

The seasons have changed

And the light

And the weather

And the hour.

But it is the same land.

And I begin to know the map

And to get my bearings.’

The Crash

This is exactly what I mean by saying that one can get a glimpse of history by looking at an ‘event’ chart. This chart is accentuating the initial Jupiter/Uranus inconjunct by adding a second arm and making it a Yod (Finger of God). The second arm is ‘timed’ by the Midheaven. Venus and Saturn combine with the Ascendant for another ‘timed’ Yod.

So, I can go out on a limb and suggest that this was more or less an accident, although conspiracy theorists might disagree. (And, of course, there are no accidents.) Dag must have been asking to stop the world, ’cause he wanted to get off. Hence, the premonition in his dreams.

Dag’s natal Ascendant is conjunct the ‘event’ Mercury/Mars aspect. The ‘event’ Ascendant is conjunct his natal Venus/Pluto aspect. Need I say anything more? I thought not…
