The Great Social Experiment of 2020

World-Wide Pandemic Responses

You know that it’s serious when the world closes its doors and goes home.

So, now we are afraid of our family, friends and neighbours.

And, of course, people are dying out there.

It feels like fear is winning.

And Then the People Revolt

It starts with the little things: old friends hugging when they meet; people choosing not to wear a mask in spaces where social distancing is difficult; on holiday weekends, the beaches are full; and people are starting to get stir-crazy.

Then George Floyd is murdered before the eyes of the world.

It seems some things are more important than ‘flattening the curve’.

Protests break out seemingly everywhere. “Black Lives Matter,” they chant.

And then the most telling statement of this year so far:

“I Can’t Breathe.”
