We’re Not Supposed to Mock the Dead…

Ghosts (2021 – Present)

We are almost through binge-watching the first season of Ghosts (the CBS version). I’ll bet that the BBC version is funnier, but this one has enough laughs to keep us amused. The following preview is from the pilot episode. (Fun fact, the pilot was filmed in Los Angeles; then they reconstructed the mansion in Montreal for the remaining episodes.)

Everyone has a story to tell. The built-in lesson is that life is short and the afterlife can be very tedious if you get ‘stuck’ between the living and the ascended.

Sam, who inherited the mansion, and her husband Jay want to open a B&B, so the first season covers their efforts to get it going. But in the pilot episode, Sam trips over a vase and falls down a flight of stairs, suffering an NDE. When she comes out of a coma, two weeks later, she begins to see ‘dead people’. This is a good thing and this is a bad thing, depending on your point-of-view. Sam’s natural instinct is to try to make it work for everyone. Along the way, some ghosts sort out their issues and ascend, but most stay behind to ‘live’ for another day.

At present, season 3 has stalled on CBS because of the March Madness basketball (playoff) season. So, by the time we’ve gotten through binge-watching season 2, we shall be able to pick up the threads ‘live’ for the next iterations of the show.
