Today in History, Queen Victoria Chooses…

Ottawa as the New Capital of Canada (December 31, 1857)

It was a surprisingly bold move.

On New Years Eve 1857, Queen Victoria was given the task of choosing the Province of Canada’s new capital. This was merely symbolic, however. The responsibility for choosing a capital city was given to the Executive Branch of the provincial government. Queen Victoria, however, chose Ottawa as the new capital of the Province of Canada.

I’ve set the clock for noon, London time. You’ll be surprised by the resulting aspects.

There are three inconjuncts, forming two interactive Yods, one pointing at Venus, the other at Uranus. Hmm.

Because the politics in Canada are so volatile, at the moment, I wondered what today’s transits are.

Hmm, again. The transiting Moon is now opposite 1857’s Moon. The Sun is within 1°. Uranus is about 2°. Neptune is only 7° further than its 1857 placement. The Yods are still active between the charts as a result, but this time pointing at the 1857 Mars and today’s Uranus. I think that says it all.

2025 will be a year of dramatic change in Canada, politically and otherwise. Hopefully, the country will survive. After all, it doesn’t want to become the 51st American state.
