Question: When Exactly was Revelation Written?

Answer: 60 AD

A lot of people have speculated as to when the Revelation of St. John was written. Their issue is that something as devastating to the Jewish people as the destruction of the Temple would definitely have been noted by John if the timing of his writing was after 70 AD. Since the ‘troubles’ (i.e. tribulation) began happening in 65 AD, John’s vision must have happened at least 42 months earlier. That’s where the time, times and half a time phrase comes from.

Others think that the 42 months phrase actually originated with Daniel’s visions. It’s entirely possible that John was merely echoing that prophecy.

“He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time.” (Daniel 7:25)

(Does this remind you of anyone?)

So, if Jesus returned in 70 AD, as some believe, what’s going to happen in 2070? Is that why it’s called his SECOND coming? Hmm.
