Here’s Where I Think My Father’s Ashes Ended Up

I was going through my family archive of pictures, when I came across three pictures I took in 2007. This one (shown above) is the clearest identifiable photo of the Hwy 69 bridge crossing. This was taken 20 years after his death in October 1987, at the young age of 77. I was standing on a walkway leading from the Radisson Museum there.

At the time of his death, my father was living in Sudbury. The lady who organized his cremation, Doreen Keays, may have spread his ashes at the French River bridge, so that he was free to leave the area when he wanted via Georgian Bay. The fact that this area is a homecoming of sorts for me seems strangely appropriate.

Since then, Hwy 69 has a new dual carriageway motorway bridge beyond the original steel one. Such is the nature of progress.
