Life’s Lesson: Love Your Own Life First and Foremost

Love of Your Life (2026)

I suppose this might be considered a strange film to watch on Halloween. What should have been a straight-forward romantic story turns into a nightmare of epic proportions. COVID-19 is the reason.

Whoever wrote the script must have an ear for ‘real’ dialog, or else this film was totally ad-libbed. Because we have subtitles on all our Prime Video playbacks, we can see every hesitation, stutter and sound spoken by the characters. Most of the time, that’s a good thing. This time, I found it a little frustrating. The main characters’ interactions were ‘too real’, if you know what I mean. Life’s like that.

Overall, the film is still interesting, even if only for the foreign shores we’re introduced to. Lisbon, Portugal, for example, seems a lovely city. And even Boston comes out in a good light. For the travelogue alone, this film is worth the price of admission. But, if you’re a sensitive soul, park your heart at the door, or you may find that it breaks in two when the catastrophe strikes. You have been warned.
