Or a Misunderstood Gesture?

In June of 2017, the Queen opened the UK Parliament with a speech about ‘a hard Brexit’ from the European Union. Her hat bore a striking resemblance to the EU flag, Everyone began speculating that she was somehow telling the world what her true feelings about leaving the EU were, perhaps as a rebuttable of the newspaper reports from the previous year, when it was reported that she supported Brexit.

After watching a week-long retrospective of the Queen on the CBC, I have come to a different conclusion: as she knew that her Queen’s Speech was about leaving the EU, she decided to wear an outfit that echoed that theme. It was only meant to be an homage.
