Groundhog Day (1993)
Today, February 2nd, 2020, is Groundhog Day. It’s the same every year: if the groundhog sees his shadow, we’ll have six more weeks of winter; if it doesn’t, it’ll be an early spring.
No-one seems to get it. Spring comes on March 21st, no matter what.
But what if we had to repeat it, over and over again, until we get it right? That’s Phil Connor’s dilemma, and ours: we have to watch him try and fail, over and over again. Until the end.
Then we realize that it was just a test, to get him to become aware of other people.
Comedy carries this along, mostly on Bill Murray’s coat tails, but imagine if we were his guardian angel or spirit guide: we’d be cheering him on, until he finally got the girl.
Enough said, to avoid repeating myself endlessly.
Of course, I missed the obvious link between our hero and the other weatherman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punxsutawney_Phil
