These Two Illustrators Had Swedenborg in Common

William Blake and Pamela Colman Smith

There is something about this Pamela Colman Smith painting from 1903 that puts me in mind of William Blake’s work like this one, featuring the Wise and Foolish Virgins (1826):

I know these paintings are not the same, strictly speaking, but the essence comes through, nevertheless. So that got me to thinking: are these two connected, karmically?

I should have known…the answer is “yes”. And Swedenborg is their obvious link. And just for good measure, here’s the cover of the 1970 rock opera record, Jesus Christ Superstar which is another echo.
