US Troops to be Withdrawn from Syria
It seemed a surprise to everyone when Donald Trump announced yesterday that the war on ISIS has been won. With that, he also announced that the American military will begin to withdraw from Syria, starting immediately.
This is obviously against the best advice of his military advisors. So, why do it?
Under Personal Attack from All Sides
Trump’s Presidency is facing an uncertain future. His financial dealings are coming under legal scrutiny. He is aware that he may be impeached as President, now, or arraigned on criminal charges, later. He wants to make his mark while he still can.
To claim victory over the Islamic State would seem to be one way, that’s for sure. But he seems to be acting against America’s best interests, yet again.
Putin’s Poodle?
On the surface, no one seems to be connecting the dots. Russia has been demanding that the US get out of Syria for almost two years now, since Trump took over as President.
In the past week, I saw a similar headline on MSN, but after the surprise announcement, I have been unable to locate it anywhere. And watching CBS, no mention of Russia at all in conjunction with this.
One news report even suggested that the Russians haven’t responded to this announcement because they doubt that it’s real. Surprising restraint, I’d say.
Conclusion
“There is no collusion…”
Trump and Putin are connected in our thinking, no matter what they might say to the contrary. It is something that the American people will regret for a very long time.
But, let’s look on the bright side: American military forces are getting to come home, and Afghanistan may be next. That’s got to be worth something, eh?
Turns out it was Turkey’s Erdoğan instead.
