Timeless: The Miracle of Christmas
I’ve held off writing about this show until now. Last night’s series finale closed the time loop which has been open for a very short couple of seasons.
Did it satisfy me? Mostly.
A Love Triangle
The premise behind this program was a story about people revisiting historical events in order to stop a secret mission by a shadowy organization to change history.
But the heart of story is one of a young history professor who falls in love with two men.
(From IMDb) Timeless tells the story of a mysterious criminal who steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it by changing the past. The only hope is an unexpected team: a scientist, a soldier and a history professor, who must use the machine’s prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of this dangerous fugitive. But can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it’s too late?
The Cast of Characters
Lucy Preston (played by Abigail Spencer)
Wyatt Logan (played by Matt Lanter)
Rufus Carlin (played by Malcolm Barrett)
Jiya (played by Claudia Doumit)
Garcia Flynn (played by Goran Visnjic)
The Twist in the Tale
What made this a very watchable series over two seasons was the question about Flynn: was he a bad guy or a good guy?
This was never adequately answered until the finale.
The MacGuffin
Lucy’s journal has played a significant part in the story, but it was always a puzzle as to how Flynn had it, and Lucy had no awareness of when she wrote it.
And it got passed back and forth so many times that I lost track of who actually had it at any specific time.
In the end, it was the way that Lucy recruited Flynn to start the whole escapade.
Conclusion
My family prefers it when I don’t give the ending away, so I will have to be brief and unspecific: Lucy finally gets to choose one of her lovers over another, and they lived happily ever after, just like in a fairy tale.
And although the series is over, a small window of possibility has been left open: I won’t say what it is, but it will involve the final scene of the show.
I hope you have seen it: this show is TIMELESS.
