Does the Universe have Our Back?
I was reading an article online that had been linked to us by the leader of our Faith & Science group, and then it struck me: most of us think that if we are good people that everything will turn out alright. How presumptuous, I thought.
This is the very reason that Agnostics and Atheists have a field day with ‘true’ believers. How can God (or the Universe, if you prefer) single out and protect/promote/prosper those that hope for the best, and yet, fear the worst? As Jesus said, in his Sermon on the Mount:
“Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?” (Matthew 4:43-46)
So our only solution is to answer the question:
“Are we working with the Universe?”
