The Bay of Pigs Invasion

While writing, yesterday, about Dag Hammarskjöld’s plane crash in 1961, I started wondering about the US failed attempt to invade Cuba and remove Fidel Castro from the world stage. It was an embarrassing diplomatic fiasco. But most people will not realize that Eisenhower was behind the plan to restore democracy to the island. Unfortunately, Kennedy stopped the second part of the planned coup, because he thought it would fail.

There are three inconjuncts:

Moon Inconjunct Midheaven

Work very hard to develop an objective awareness of what you are doing and where you are going. You will need this understanding to guide your emotions, which might otherwise lead you astray and make it difficult for you to focus on your goals. Learn to see others’ points of view, even if you cannot accept them. Learn to make logical decisions, and do not let passing moods color your attitudes about yourself and your life too much.

Mercury Inconjunct Neptune

Sometimes this aspect means that you are so nervously sensitive that you pick up all the negative psychological energies around you and react to them very strongly. If this is true for you, the only way to deal with it is to be moved to a peaceful, positive environment. If there is too much noise or too many bad vibrations in your life, you will withdraw more and more and refuse to face reality.

Jupiter Inconjunct Pluto

You may have a natural talent for dominating others, but don’t fall in love with this talent and be motivated by it. You can be effective at influencing people only if you use your power to help others and yourself achieve desirable goals together. You must be an agent for betterment at all times, and even so you must listen to others’ ideas about betterment to be sure that you aren’t just seeking power in a more roundabout manner.

Conclusion

Many thought JFK blew it when the invasion was called off. But, in hindsight, he was acting more honourably than the CIA and their recruits. When the Cuban Missile Crisis happened in the following year, he was able to stand up to, and stare down, the might of the USSR. Kennedy had learned the lessons of this fiasco well.
