Another New American TV Show “Borrowed” from the UK

Call Me Kat (2021)

The opening sequence has Kat (played by Mayim Bialik) talking directly to the camera (audience). Hmm. That looks familiar, I thought. Here’s a taster:

Then I spied in the opening titles that this show is based on the British TV show “Miranda”. A-ha. That would account for the small acts of slapstick I had witnessed.

But Kat is no Miranda (whose star Miranda Hart is about 6′ 1″ and gawky with it). As you can see in the clip above, Max, the bartender, is seen as a hot hunk of a guy. In the British show his name is Gary, and he was played by Tom Ellis, before he came to the States and became Lucifer.

It’s always chancy to transfer a UK hit to the USA or Canada. I only hope that this show can live up to the promise of a smash hit in its initial run.

But it’s not the cat’s whiskers…
