Boris Pasternak (February 10, 1890 – May 30, 1960)
Most astrology sites list Pasternak’s birth time as 4:00 pm. Only one person decided that it should be 11:54 pm instead. I’m agreeing with Starkman as the chart is then rectified to his subterfuge (Neptune) at age 66 to smuggle the manuscript out of the Soviet Union and his subsequent Nobel Prize (Pluto) at age 68. He died at age 70. There are four inconjuncts.
Moon Inconjunct Neptune
People with this aspect often hide their real feelings and make sacrifices for others that they do not really want to make. Then they resent the person who asked for the sacrifice. You must learn to tell people how you really feel; if you do not, you have only yourself to blame for what happens. You must learn to accept that you are responsible for your own life. Do not act as if you are the victim of strong forces that you can’t control, because you can control them.
Mercury Inconjunct Saturn
A particularly serious problem can be feeling suspicious of others, which later in life will turn into a cynical attitude about people’s behavior. True, it is good to be aware of the realities of life and not [be] overidealistic. But you shouldn’t look at life in the worst possible light. You need to be surrounded by positive and optimistic people, and your parents should try not to be too negative around you and to make sure that you experience the best and most cheerful aspects of life. You will learn soon enough what to expect of the world without having your nose rubbed in its less desirable features.
Neptune Inconjunct Ascendant
The more positive way of dealing with this energy is by giving freely before others try to take it from you. In order to do this, you have to feel good about yourself and confident that you will always have enough for yourself and others. One side of you likes to help and take care of people and will not feel taken [advantage] by those whom you give to. In the highest expression of this aspect, what you gain for yourself will not mean as much as what you gain for others, which is the effect you should work for.
Pluto Inconjunct Ascendant
However, you should not avoid people who force you to observe yourself and the world very clearly. Such people will come into your life at times when changes must occur. While you are young, these people might be your parents or a special teacher. You probably will resist their influence, because what they show you will be hard to take, but you must accept it, for they have the highest concern for your well-being.
With your friends, you must learn to give in at least as often as you get your way. Don’t let either you or your friend become dominant. Winning, losing and compromising in equal measure are all part of getting along, which you may find hard.
His Death Chart Confirms the Birth Time
The Yod (Finger of God) is pointing at Venus @ 3° Gemini. The inconjuncts making this happen are connected to Jupiter (expansion) and the Ascendant (personality). It couldn’t be more fitting, could it? The people of Russia came to love Pasternak more that their hated Soviet Union. And Pasternak loved his mother country back with the fierceness of a baby bear.
The Combined Charts
That Yod in his ‘death’ chart is now (also) pointing at his natal Neptune @ 2° Gemini. The two Ascendants are within 3° of each other, almost aligned to his natal conjunction of the Moon and Uranus. Double Scorpio Rising is powerful. But he couldn’t keep the secret forever. It took 20 years of his life to write the full story of his love for Russia. By the time of his death, Boris Pasternak had fully completed what he had set out to do.
