What’s in a Name? By Accident or Design?

Manifest (Season 4, Part 2a)

Way back at the beginning of Manifest, I wondered about some of the characters’ names. Most were obvious, but one of them made me ponder its meaning.

I’d never heard of the Goddess Lakshmi before, so I researched her story. It turns out she is the Hindu Goddess of luck and prosperity. In the Manifest series, Saanvi is the scientist most interested in researching how Sapphire figures in the story of the return of Montego flight 828. Evidently, Sapphire is said to bring prosperity and joy. This cannot be a coincidence.

And, very subtly in season 4, the 828ers began referring to God as She. Hmm.

I liked Saanvi. Probably my favourite character.

Amy and I used to talk about Lakshmi as we studied her in Religious Education and always thought she was the most beautiful Hindu goddess.
