The Drama (2026)

Maybe, I’m being a little harsh, and years from now the whole thing will be seen as a stylistic breakthrough of some sort, but for now, don’t watch this emotional train wreck.

I’ve heard of cold feet before getting hitched, but this one takes the wedding cake. The usual line about not really knowing your partner is imagined out of all proportion. In fact, the built-in understanding of another’s motivations is exaggerated out of perspective. The imagery jumps around between the present and the past too much, causing confusion for the viewer. I guess that’s the intended purpose of the director. After all, what man would marry a woman who wanted to cause a school shooting when she was a teenager. The flashbacks help us to understand the why, but are we empathetic enough to truly care? When it all falls apart, could you start again? That’s the whole question of the film that was telegraphed at the very beginning, before the opening titles even begin.

In the previews and promotions, the topic of Emma’s confession was glossed over. No need to wonder why. The truth is in the title, isn’t it?
