Jake Wood was one of the ensemble actors on Eastenders, a BBC evening soap opera. Here is a video of his appearance on This Morning on ITV1.
Last night, I saw a new advertisement for GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) which involved placing a call to a helpline for putting together furniture (IKEA, perhaps?) – the automated answering system could NOT understand the gecko’s accent when he was saying “book case”. It reminded me of the elevator sequence from another show, this one on BBC Scotland.
Although we are all speaking the English language, sometimes we are not understood by others because we speak with an accent.
Is that a kind of “Tower of Babel” thing?
