Hiding in plain sight? No, not exactly. If you want to garner attention for your group, just tell the world that you have a secret, and watch as they beat a path to your door.
But what if your secret goes against the Church and the State, at the same time? Now you’re in a very delicate situation which requires the utmost finesse possible when you walk the tightrope between them. One slip and your group could be for the ‘chop’.
It is obvious to me that in a past life I have belonged to a secret fraternity. So what?
My life, in the present time, has supposedly nothing to do with that past life, and yet, somehow, I think it does. My ability to see below the surface of things, for example.
You might think I’m just being paranoid: I see myself as a sensible skeptic.
Gnostics have spent almost their entire lives being aware that their are two ‘rulers’ in this world: the Creator and the Demiurge. It is a binary world, after all.
Our usual perspective is to recognize the things that divide us: good/bad; male/female; black/white; up/down; rich/poor; smart/dumb (do I need to go on?)
But what if the way to overcome these divisions is to perceive ALL as One?
The “Third” Way is a tightrope walk between the two sides: it is the equivalent to being Independent. No right way, no wrong way; no right side, no left side. BOTH together!
Now, where have we seen this idea before?
“Abulafia interpreted Theosophical Kabbalah’s Sephirot Divine attributes, not as supernal hypostases which he opposed, but in psychological terms. Instead of influencing harmony in the divine real by theurgy, his meditative scheme aimed for mystical union with God, drawing down prophetic influx on the individual. He saw this meditation using Divine Names as a superior form of Kabbalistic ancient tradition.” (Wikipedia)
