One More Soldier in a Long Line of Military Men

James Blunt (February 22, 1974)

James Blunt released his greatest hits album, yesterday. The image on the cover is startling. He’s dressed as a soldier. Oh, right, he used to be one, before he became a pop sensation in 2004.

No one knows what time he was born, so the soldier clue helps in rectifying his birth chart. Like Adele, he has a flurry of planets and lights around his Descendant, and they help to define the timing of events in his life: getting a military scholarship (Jupiter); joining the army (Sun); seeing battle in the Kosovo war (Mercury); and finally, starting his pop career (Moon). All between the ages of 17 and 30.

It’s the Mars (@ 27° Taurus) conjunct the Midheaven (@ 25° Taurus) aspect that absolutely nails this down as correct. That makes his Rising sign Virgo, which is the impression he gives off as a perfectionist. There are multiple inconjuncts.

Sun Inconjunct Pluto

There will be many changes in your life, and you will be affected by deep psychological forces that may be difficult to understand at times, as well as confusing to the people around you. You approach people with great intensity, and your emotional involvements are seldom casual. Either you like people very much or your dislike them intensely. Possibly your attitudes on other matters will be extreme also. One of the most important lessons that you will have to learn is to be more moderate.

Mercury Inconjunct Pluto

This Aspect can mean that at certain times in your life you will go through tremendous psychological changes. All your thoughts and opinions will change completely. These stages may seem difficult, but you will be much better off if you let go of the past and welcome new ideas.

Venus Inconjunct Saturn

You need and want love, but you may not be able to get it easily. You may feel that your parents, teachers or other persons in authority make demands on you that you must fulfill before they will give you any love and support. It that is true, it is unfortunate, because you deserve respect and love as much as anyone. When you get older, you may feel that duty and ambition must come before love and human relationships. Unfortunately, if you follow that path, you will become very lonely, and when you realize that you belong to no one and nothing, you will go through a spiritual crisis.

Mars Inconjunct Uranus

This energy may be expressed as a hot temper, especially when you have to endure restriction or limitation, such as sitting still in a classroom for a long time. You have a rebellious streak that needs to be disciplined, because everyone has to endure some restrictions, and it takes so little to trigger your temper.

Sometimes you may make sudden moves that startle people. You may make a decision very quickly and start to act on it immediately, but that is not such a good idea. Make up your mind more slowly, or at least wait for a while until you start to act. If your idea still looks good a couple of days later, it is probably all right to go ahead with it.

Mars Conjunct Midheaven

This aspect indicates that when you are older you should choose a career in which you can have a great deal of independence and expend a lot of physical energy. If you work for someone else, you will frequently feel more like a competitor than an employee, and if you don’t like the pace set by your employer, you will feel very angry and hostile. You would not be at your best working in a team situation, with the possible exception of an athletic team. This placement of Mars is very common among athletes, but even in a team sport you need to have opportunities to shine on your own in order to be happy.

Uranus Inconjunct Midheaven

You need to express your thought and feelings, but you often upset the people around you with your words. You seem to enjoy creating a stir every time you say something, but this can get you into quite a bit of trouble with parents, teachers and other authority figures. The underlying principle of this aspect is the need to balance your individual self-expression and manner of communicating with your need to learn and grow under the guidance of older people.

Conclusions

The videos that I shared here are mostly from his first album “Back to Bedlam” (2004). The reason for doing so is that his songs speak of the energies that he was experiencing before the album came out. They show the Jupiter through Moon connections. The final video is a homage to his father, and the sum total of his emotional feelings about him, which is why he cried on camera. Is he settled now? i think so.
