Howard Carter Opens King Tutankhamun’s Sarcophagus
I know it sounds strange to buy into the idea of a curse, especially today, but these things were long rumoured to be true, especially with respect to an Egyptian King’s last resting place.
On this day in 1923: English archaeologist Howard Carter enters the burial chamber of King Tutankhamun.
In November 1922, the wait paid off, when Carter’s team found steps hidden in the debris near the entrance of another tomb. The steps led to an ancient sealed doorway bearing the name Tutankhamen. When Carter and Lord Carnarvon entered the tomb’s interior chambers on November 26, they were thrilled to find it virtually intact, with its treasures untouched after more than 3,000 years. The men began exploring the four rooms of the tomb, and on February 16, 1923, under the watchful eyes of a number of important officials, Carter opened the door to the last chamber.
Inside lay a sarcophagus with three coffins nested inside one another. The last coffin, made of solid gold, contained the mummified body of King Tut. Among the riches found in the tomb–golden shrines, jewelry, statues, a chariot, weapons, clothing–the perfectly preserved mummy was the most valuable, as it was the first one ever to be discovered. Despite rumors that a curse would befall anyone who disturbed the tomb, its treasures were carefully catalogued, removed and included in a famous traveling exhibition called the “Treasures of Tutankhamen.” The exhibition’s permanent home is the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.History.com
This chart is randomized. But, if a curse were to be triggered by their actions, Mars would have to be prominently featured, and it is, conjunct the Ascendant @ 19° Aries, opposed to Saturn. There are two connected inconjuncts pointing at Jupiter @ 18° Scorpio 28′.
Mars Inconjunct Jupiter
It is important for you to realize that you are not unlucky. Accidents or mishaps result from going too far too fast rather than from bad luck. If you slow down and learn new skills carefully and slowly, you will do as well as anyone else, perhaps better.
Mars Opposition Saturn
You often have the feeling that persons and circumstances are working against you and frustrating what you want to do. As a result you learn to hold in your emotions, especially anger. This can lead to certain psychosomatic problems, such as allergic reactions.
Mars Conjunct Ascendant
You are strong-willed, and people quickly realize that you are not someone to trifle with. You need to have complete control over your own life, but there is a danger that you will be too quarrelsome and domineering.
Jupiter Inconjunct Ascendant
Probably you will accomplish the most if you direct your energies to tasks that benefit others as well as yourself. This is not merely a plea for you to be unselfish, but an assertion that you will achieve your own goals most quickly by doing work that helps others.
Saturn Opposition Ascendant
The relationship that is most affected by this placement is marriage. You may be too young to think about that now, but your present close relationships, even friendships with people of your own sex, will teach you much that you should know about getting along. Otherwise you may build up a wall between yourself and everyone else.
Astrologically, Carter’s actions may have triggered ‘protective’ aspects that rebounded on him and his associates. While reading through the details of these aspects, I was struck by how apt they were for King Tut himself. Perhaps his spirit was still there in his burial chamber. How else can one explain it?
