On This Day in 1959

Bonanza Premieres (September 12, 1959)

For the first two years, I never watched Bonanza on a consistent basis. Why? Because it aired at 7:30 pm on a Saturday night, and as any Canadian knows, that’s Hockey Night in Canada. But, by 1961, that changed when NBC moved its time slot to 9:00 pm on Sundays, airing after the Ed Sullivan Show.

So, why was it so popular? I wonder if the event chart can tell us.

Ah, so, as Hop Sing would say: the Yod pointing at Venus is why. It was probably the first TV western that appealed to women, and I think Michael Landon was the reason. Never underestimate the power of love.

Hmm.

Meeting the “B Train” on Nantucket Island

The Perfect Couple (2024)

This Netflix series is based on a book by Elin Hildebrand, published in 2018. In its original format, the death of the bride’s maid-of-honour is an accident, but in the series, it’s a murder. Every episode implies who the murderer could be, but that’s only revealed in the second half of the final episode. So, it keeps you guessing, along with the Nantucket Police.

The Perfect Couple are not the husband and wife at the head of the Winbury household on Nantucket Island. No, the perfect couple are Shooter, the best man, and Amelia, the bride. Shooter thinks he recognizes Amelia from an event on the B Train (hence the title of this post) several years before. He even lists Amelia’s number on his cellphone as “B Train”.

On This Day in 1504

Michelangelo’s David is Unveiled (September 8, 1504 [OS])

It’s not often that one looks at the unveiling of a statue as its birth, since few statues take on a life of its own. However, with this one, I’m going to make an exception. Here’s his ‘birth’ chart.

I’ve chosen 9 am as the unveiling time, but it could have been anytime that day. As the day went on, the Moon would have drawn closer to the Sun’s position, so I suspect there was a solar eclipse that day.

There were no obvious inconjuncts, at least for that time of day. This may also have been the birth of the Italian Renaissance. That’s all I want to say on the matter. I just hope you’ve enjoyed this trip down memory lane.

Managing Expectations, Too

The Second Presidential Debate (September 10, 2024)

Hopefully, someone has consulted an astrologer, this time, but I sincerely doubt it. The energies for this round look interesting, to say the least. Perhaps, in the bigger scheme of things, this was intended for Biden and Trump, not Harris and Trump. At any rate, something will emerge from it, I’m sure.

Hmm. There are two inconjuncts, both of which focus on the dichotomy between these two candidates:

Mercury Inconjunct Pluto

You have a rather complicated and sometimes tricky mind. You usually prefer to do things in roundabout and involved ways instead of being simple and direct.

On the negative side, you might misuse this ability by trying to control people’s thoughts and words. Also you may love mysteries so much that you get involved in complicated thoughts and arrangements with your friends. You may enjoy working in secret and creating an air of mystery about yourself, but this could backfire and make others misunderstand you or even fear what you are doing. It is important to show people that you are honest and that you are not hiding anything. Otherwise they will probably suspect you, even if you are totally innocent. And if you aren’t, they will know it for certain.

Planets in Youth (page 172) by Robert Hand (1977)

Venus Inconjunct Saturn

This aspect means that your family may make you feel that you are unworthy of love. Unless you are given a great deal of love while you are young, you will be attracted to cold and unfeeling people when you are an adult. Such people are an outward expression of your inner feeling of unworthiness.

Even without pressure, you are likely to be more disciplined than most people your age. You don’t go overboard in anything, and you feel strongly that your worth depends on what you do and how much you accomplish.

Ibid (page 198)

It’s not hard to imagine which aspect belongs to which candidate, but there are elements to these descriptions that affect both of them.

Now, let’s look at how this debate lines up for the candidates.

At first glance, it seems that more of the transiting planets line up with Trump’s natal positions. It will only be seen during (and after) the debate if this is a good thing for him or a disaster. And that’s what I mean about managing expectations.

Hmm, again.

From an Outsider’s Point of View:

The American Scales of Justice are Tipped in Trump’s Favour

I cannot help having an opinion about this. But even Trump has suggested that getting indicted makes his poll numbers go up. Now, some of the courts are deciding to postpone sentencing Trump until after the election, in order to create the appearance of impartiality when voting is concerned.

The silver lining (if there is one) is the idea that, even if Trump should happen to win the November election, he can be sentenced before he assumes the office of President, and J.D. Vance can take over his duties. But, if he loses, again, he will just be Citizen Trump and therefore, definitely, not above the law.

What a dilemma!

The voters truly are in charge of Trump’s future.

When Memories are Long, and Resentments Linger

The Carpetbaggers (1964)

I was just 14 when this film came out .It was based on a book by Harold Robbins, published in 1961. The timing was about a hundred years after the American Civil War. The term ‘carpetbagger’ derived from a type of Northern opportunist who flooded the South after the Civil War ended. The term is pejorative, although I didn’t know it at the time. It seems to me that the South still feels these resentments strongly.

Another surprising thing I learned is that Democrats were considered the ‘bad guys’ after the Civil War. I don’t think that has changed much after 160 years. The whole ‘replacement theory’ stems from having Northerners, freed slaves and other immigrants take over the jobs (and lives) of the white plantation owners and their families. That fear of being pushed out is still strong.

Hmm.

The World’s First Book of Happiness in the Modern Era

The Power of Positive Thinking (October 1, 1952)

Obviously, there have been books in the past that were morally and philosophically inclined, but this one struck a generation that survived the second World War and their children, the Baby Boomers.

In essence, being nicer to your neighbours, kinder to your children and gentler on yourself would pay off in ways that “The Secret” promised, fifty-four years later. So, I’m going to look at its author:

Norman Vincent Peale (May 31, 1898 – December 24, 1993)

Unless and until we look at the man’s birth chart, we cannot really know or understand the individual.

This chart was already on my computer program, which means I cannot guarantee that the timing is right. But, however this came about, NVP’s wife was the motivation of his life, and ‘power’ behind the man, so having Venus on his Ascendant would make sense in some sort of way. Love is a powerful motivator. There are four inconjuncts, two of which form a Yod, pointing at the Moon.

Moon Inconjunct Mercury

You shouldn’t allow your feelings to overrun your reason. The best thing to do whenever there seems to be a conflict between these two areas is to not make a decision immediately. Reflect and wait for further information that might help you make up your mind.

Planets in Youth (page 116) by Robert Hand (1977)

Moon Inconjunct Midheaven

You need to feel that your family, especially your parents, give you consistent and reliable emotional guidance and support. Without it, you may easily feel that you are being pulled in two directions, which can only result in going nowhere.

Ibid (page 142)

Venus Inconjunct Saturn

This aspect means that your family may make you feel that you are unworthy of love. Unless you are given a great deal of love while you are young, you will be attracted to cold and unfeeling people when you are an adult. Such people are an outward expression of your inner feeling of unworthiness.

Ibid (page 198)

Saturn Inconjunct Ascendant

You need to be encouraged to believe in yourself and to recognize your personal strength. You have to be helped to realize that you as an individual are worth a lot and that you need to get some satisfaction from life as much as the next person does.

Ibid (page 303)

Now, is it just me, or can you also detect that the book he wrote in 1952 was directed at himself?

I randomized the timing, which is almost 9:00 am, on the publication date. I didn’t expect to see a visual echo of the man. This time, the Yod is pointing at Jupiter, formed by inconjuncts to Mars and Neptune, and there’s a repeat of the Moon being inconjunct to Mercury from his own chart. Out of curiosity, I combined the two charts to experience what would appear:

Hmm.

As we have been told, this book has been the bedrock of Trump’s belief in positive thinking. But it’s funny how he can focus on one part of the book’s premise and completely ignore other parts:

And, just for fun, here’s an illustration that Wikipedia has:

How apropos.

When Google was Adjudged to be a Monopoly

Judgement Day (August 5, 2024)

This is my follow-up post to the one I made earlier today. The reason? To demonstrate how what goes around comes back around again.

I randomized the timing, but then recognized that some of those Launch energies were being triggered, this time by the Sun and the Moon transiting Mars, Mercury and Venus. In fact, the Moon is almost exactly conjunct the Launch’s position of Venus, while Pluto is conjunct the Launch’s Neptune. Hmm.

Those with an astrological eye will discern how ‘correct’ the timing is: namely, Judgement’s Venus is (exactly) conjunct Launch’s North Node @ 0° Virgo!

Game over?

Would You Believe that It Used to be Called “BackRub”?

Google Founded (September 4, 1998)

(As in, you rub my back and I’ll rub yours?)

The name Google is a misspelling of Googol, the number 1 followed by 100 zeros, which was picked to signify that the search engine was intended to provide large quantities of information.

Wikipedia

I arbitrarily set the clock for 9:00 am. There are some interesting dynamics: Mars is almost exactly opposite to Uranus, for example. Hmm. REVOLUTION!?

There are also six inconjuncts, with two sets forming Yods, pointing at Venus and Uranus, respectively.

Sun Inconjunct Uranus

There is a side of your personality that is very restless and impatient with rules, even when you know they are for your own good. You want very much to go your own way and do your own thing, even when you aren’t entirely sure that it is the right direction for you. So you rebel in subtle ways by having sudden fits of obstinacy and moods of feeling very contrary, especially to authority figures.

Planets in Youth (page 89) by Robert Hand (1977)

Mercury Inconjunct Jupiter

You like to think big, and you have great ambitions, but you don’t always make sure that your thinking is clear or careful. When you make any kind of plan, be careful. Don’t try to take on more than you can handle and make sure not to overlook details, for that could hurt what you are trying to do. Careful planning will help you develop disciplined habits in other areas as well.

Ibid (page 161)

Venus Inconjunct Jupiter

This can be a positive aspect if you learn to control some of its negative possibilities. You are likely to lack energy and to be rather passive. You may wait for opportunities to come to you, rather than go after them. You may not have enough energy to pursue your ambitions, or you may not have much ambition. Or you may love your comfort so much that you are unwilling to make any effort or put up with any pain that could help you grow and develop. However, if there are any indications of energy in your chart, they should overcome the passivity.

Ibid (page 195)

Venus Inconjunct Neptune

This aspect means that your attitudes about love and affection are very idealistic, as will become clearer later in life. Also it can be a sign of creative ability if there are other indications of creativity in your chart. And, of course, you must begin the appropriate training while you are young.

Ibid (page 203)

Saturn Inconjunct Pluto

Even under favorable circumstances, this aspect usually means that you are resistant to change, that you hold on to any situation, no matter how bad, until it is totally intolerable. Then when change does take place, it has to create a revolution and a total breakdown of everything that came before it. You must learn to adapt to circumstances a bit more gracefully and not be afraid of occasional compromise.

Ibid (page 300)

Uranus Inconjunct Midheaven

You need to express your thoughts and feelings, but you often upset the people around you with your words. You seem to enjoy creating a stir every time you say something, but this can get you into quite a bit of trouble with authority figures. The underlying principle of this aspect is the need to balance your individual self-expression and manner of communicating with your need to learn and grow under the guidance of older people.

Ibid (page 325)
