Mork Calling Orson…

Come In Orson

Yes, I know it’s old and trite now, but a television station in Hamilton, Ontario (CHCH) still runs episodes of Mork and Mindy on a daily basis.

And at the end of each program, Mork reports what he’s learned that day with Orson, his superior being. Because Mork is an alien from Ork, his perspective of life on Earth can be quite eye-opening.

Even then, I saw that Mork was going into a form of meditation in order to communicate clearly with Orson inside his consciousness. (And, for the record, I have always heard Mork call the being “Awesome”.)

We each do the same at the end of the day: nightly prayers; mini-review of the day; and/or dream work. It is how we put the day to bed, as it were.

This is Mork signing off

So now I have a couple of points about the end of every show (and Orson meeting): Mork grabs both his ears (like Carol Burnett, only doubled) and he says, “Nanu, nanu.”

It seems to me that his greeting/farewell gesture is a visual sign-off with more significance than first appears. It’s a stretch but I suspect he has taken “amen” and twisted it into this foreign sounding word. In fact he has turned it upside down and backwards.

Na-new, Na-new.

Pure genius.
