Ann-Margret (April 28, 1941)
They said to each other at the same time, when they were first introduced, “I’ve heard a lot about you.” Then they laughed. A good beginning of their 14 year friendship, and one year relationship. (As a 13 years old during the making of “Viva Las Vegas” I was oblivious…)
The timing of Ann-Margret’s birth was collected from her husband, Roger Smith’s ex-wife, so it should be very accurate. But what an interesting planetary setup. All but two of her natal planets are in that very large 12th House. And the only inconjunct involves the Ascendant and the Midheaven, for which there is no text to describe the relationship. (Ordinarily, the 10th House cusp is within 90° of the Ascendant, but Ann-Margret was born in Sweden, not North America.) What I find curious is the ‘driver’ of the locomotive is Mars, which is why she could stand her ground with the actors of her day, as evidenced by this sequence from the film.
So What Brought Them Together?
I can see a clear handful of connections: the most obvious, to me, is Elvis’ South Node being conjunct to Ann-Margret’s Pluto @ 2° Leo. This relates to a time is history (2818 BC) when Sumer was prominent. Could he have been The King, then, and she was a temptress? Hmm.
Also obvious is the opposition between their two Ascendants. Opposites do attract, you know. Ann-Margret has admitted that before she met Elvis, she recognized herself in him. Mirror image, perhaps?
“We experienced music in the same visceral way. Music ignited a fiery pent-up passion inside Elvis and inside me. It was an odd, embarrassing, funny, inspiring, and wonderful sensation. We looked at each other move and saw virtual mirror images. When Elvis thrust his pelvis, mine slammed forward too. When his shoulder dropped, I was down there with him. When he whirled, I was already on my heel.” (Ann-Margret)Elvis History Blog
Ann-Margret’s Neptune is conjunct Elvis’ Midheaven in Virgo. Elvis always appeared to be a show business virgin, and his relationship with her went against his own professional standards at the time. And during this time period, he was engaged to Priscilla, another no-no in his books. Colonel Parker persuaded Elvis to marry Priscilla in spite of his misgivings. Having her North Node conjunct his Midheaven didn’t do Ann-Margret’s career any harm, either, did it?
Finally, Elvis’ Uranus is conjunct Ann-Margret’s Mercury @ 28° Aries. He would have been ‘excited’ by the way her mind worked. In other words, she was stimulating on a mental level.
But were they “soul mates”? Who can tell?
