When His Need for Speed Turned Deadly

James Dean’s Fatal Car Crash (September 30, 1955)

Meet the ‘Little Bastard’.

Dean Jeffries, who had a paint shop next to [George] Barris, did the customizing work which consisted of: painting ‘130’ in black non-permanent paint on the front hood, doors and rear deck lid. He also painted “Little Bastard” in script across the rear cowling. The red leather bucket seats and red tail stripes were original. The tail stripes were painted by the Stuttgart factory, which was customary on the Spyders for racing ID.

As the sun was setting on that fateful day, James Dean would crash his brand new Porsche 550 Spyder.

The Moon @ 27° Pisces in the 12th House is significant. It is the apex of a double Yod involving Mercury conjunct Neptune on one side and Pluto on the other. There is one further inconjunct connecting Uranus and the Midheaven.

As you grow older, you will have to learn to make your feelings and your reason work together. The problem is not so much that they come into conflict with each other, but that your reason and feelings represent two very different sides of your personality. When you are calm and collected and able to reflect carefully, you make decisions in one way. But when you are emotionally involved in a situation, you are likely to make up your mind very differently, which could cause you to seem inconsistent to others and make it difficult for them to understand you.

Moon Inconjunct Neptune

People with this aspect often hide their real feelings and make sacrifices for others that they do not really want to make. Then they resent the person who asked for the sacrifice. You must learn to tell people how you really feel; if you do not, you have only yourself to blame for what happens. You must learn to accept that you are responsible for your own life. Do not act as if you are the victim of strong forces that you can’t control, because you can control them.

Moon Inconjunct Pluto

This aspect means that your emotions are very intense and not always easy to deal with. Often your feelings make you want to do or say something without knowing why. Also you may have very intense moods in which you withdraw from those around you into a world of your own. This should not be a very serious problem unless you have been brought up to have all sorts of fears and worries. In that case your actions will be driven by your fears, and you may behave quite strangely. If you do not feel accepted and emotionally supported at home, you may constantly feel guilty for what you think you have done to others, or jealous that people aren’t paying enough attention to you, or generally possessive of those around you.

Mercury Conjunct Neptune

You have a very rich imagination, but you must learn to control it enough to understand what is real and what is not. That is the challenge of this aspect. It is unlikely that you mean to be a liar, but you may have trouble telling the truth, simply because you don’t always know it yourself. You may tell untruths without meaning to. You have a very rich fantasy world, which seems very real to you, and in a way it is real, but not in a way that most others can accept. However, as you grow older and learn to understand your mind, your fantasy world can become a rich source of ideas for creative writing or art.

You are also very sensitive to what is going on in other people’s minds, even when they don’t say a word. This may be confusing at first, because you don’t know how you know something, and that makes others disbelieve you, even when you are right. Your intuition is very highly developed.

Sometimes this aspect means that you have nervous problems for no clear reason. Even while you are young, you simply have to rest your nerves at times, especially if you are around people who create a lot of excitement and stress. You need peace and quiet.

In school you are not likely to be very good at math and science, not because you are slow, but because you do not think that way. You do not like your mind to be limited by the dry laws of logic.

Uranus Inconjunct Midheaven

When you feel rebellious and unwilling to accept anything you are told, you should be allowed, within reason, to have the experience that will help you understand your elders’ point of view. If you are lucky enough to have parents who let you do this, you will eventually get over your childhood resentment of being told what to do. Although you may not always agree with what they tell you, at least you will consider the merits of their views.

[Now, it may seem strange to delineate the aspects for an accidental death, especially since they relate to the event and not the life of the deceased, but I am a firm believer in the idea that the effects of the cycles of heaven at our death are the unconscious thoughts and feelings we carry into our next life.]

And the irony of this? At the time of the crash, James Dean may have been driving the speed limit.
