Queen Elizabeth I (September 7, 1533 – March 24, 1603)
Before we look at this relationship, I wanted to share with you what Elizabeth’s birth chart shows us. This is a strong woman. But she has a couple of soft spots: Mars inconjunct Midheaven and Jupiter inconjunct Uranus.
Mars Inconjunct Midheaven
This aspect can mean that you have mixed feelings about all authority figures, including your parents. You may feel that you have to violate the rules laid down by your parents in order to get your way. This is a significant problem, because if it continues into adulthood, you will have great difficulties with employers. Therefore it is very important that your parents teach you how to express your self-assertive drives without going against their teachings. Unfortunately it is impossible to state how that should be done, because the conflict between self-will, on one hand, and self-denial and work, on the other, is different for each person.
Jupiter Inconjunct Uranus
With this aspect, especially if either of the planets is in conjunction or opposition with the Ascendant or Midheaven, you may be unable to decide whether you should act alone in total freedom or with others in group or social situations. Also you may not trust any ideas, values and concepts that you share with the people around you. For example, you may feel that instead of believing something that others believe, you have to establish your own ideas and values. You may try to be a nonconformist simply for its own sake, which obviously is a waste. The validity of an idea is totally independent of how many people believe it, and it is as bad to automatically reject what others believe as to accept it blindly.
Now Add Sir Walter Raleigh to the Mix
There is one very exact conjunction between them, and that involves her Pluto and his Mars @ 0 degrees Aquarius. Isn’t it interesting that Jupiter and Saturn are going to be exactly conjunct at that degree on December 21st of this year? Proof of reincarnation?
The Yod (formed from a sextile in her birth chart of the Sun and Saturn) is pointing at his Saturn @ almost 23 degrees Aquarius. Elizabeth saw Raleigh as a strong figure, too.
But the Moon in her chart being conjunct his Neptune @ 8 degrees Taurus meant that she was deceived by him, and that cut her to the quick when he bedded, then wedded, one of her ladies-in-waiting. Raleigh’s heart should have been his Queen’s because his Moon and Venus conjunct was on her Ascendant (Capricorn). Most of the stresses between them are centred on the T-square at that point. Obviously, Raleigh had a different agenda, since his Jupiter/Ascendant conjunction is opposite his Mars/her Pluto. This was always going to be problematic.
In public, he was chivalrous as evidenced by the cloak over the water puddle event.
In private, he would have been just in service to his Queen.
